Obedience

Dog obedience training is a fundamental aspect of responsible pet ownership. It establishes clear communication between you and your dog, fosters a strong bond, and enhances their overall well-being.

At K9 Control Training, our standards are higher than the average. Your dog will be trained to understand and listen to 5 different commands (heel, sit, down, stay, come, place) as well as understanding what the word “no” means. These commands are taught on leash, graduated to off leash, and then put to the true test under our care with distractions like other dogs, humans, in real world environments (restaurants, stores, parks, walking trails, the beach). When we say we lay a solid foundation for your 4-legged best friend, we mean it! Anyone can train a dog to sit for a treat- our team takes obedience training to different level with clear communication and makes learning fun!

Here are a few key reasons why investing in dog obedience training with us is crucial:

Got Obedience Questions? We're All Ears (and Tails)

Obedience training is the foundation for everything else your dog will learn with us. Here are the questions we hear most before someone books a free evaluation.

Your dog will learn five core commands: heel, sit, down, stay, and come, along with a clear understanding of “no.” We teach each command on leash first, then progress to off-leash, and finally test with real-world distractions like other dogs, people, restaurants, stores, and walking trails.

Anyone can get a dog to sit for a treat. Our obedience training is built for reliability, meaning your dog listens with distractions, off-leash, and in unfamiliar environments. That’s a higher standard than basic command training, and it’s what makes the foundation last.

Yes. Off-leash reliability is core to our program, not an add-on. Once your dog has mastered a command on leash, we graduate them to off-leash and then test that training under real distractions, so you can trust their response anywhere, not just in a quiet backyard.

Often, yes. Knowing a command in a calm, controlled setting is different from responding to it reliably in the real world. If your dog “knows” sit but still jumps on guests or ignores you at the dog park, obedience training closes that gap with clear communication and consistent follow-through.

Obedience training is well suited to issues like leash pulling, jumping on people, counter surfing, and general lack of focus or responsiveness. If your dog’s challenges are rooted in fear, trauma, or aggression, our Rehabilitation program is likely the better starting point.

Beyond good manners, obedience training improves safety by making your dog’s response to commands reliable, supports healthy socialization, reduces anxiety through structure and consistency, and strengthens the bond between you and your dog through shared training experience.

You’ll receive the equipment we used during training, three one-on-one follow-up lessons, and twice-monthly group classes for the life of your dog, so the training keeps being reinforced long after graduation.
